The Cat Eye
A purr-fectly gorgeous take on eyes inspired by the sexy sixties. “The dramatic Cat Eye is the catalyst behind the entire Mod Chic collection,” says smashbox makeup artist Lori Taylor. The secret to pulling off the look is not so much about dramatic shadow; it’s about emphasizing the shape of the eye, making sure to elongate that shape by sweeping color up and out.

- For maximum control, use a brush with a tapered, rounded end. (Think DEFINER BRUSH #15). Using the EYE SHADOW TRIO in TWIGHLIGHT, sweep the white shade across upper lids from the natural lashline to the natural crease. Take the CREAM EYE LINER BRUSH #9 and dip into the black shade in TWIGHLIGHT. Then draw a thick line across lashline. Next, using the same BRUSH #9, apply another coat of black shadow to the outer end of the eye by flicking the brush up and out.

- For maximum Cat Eye impact use BRUSH # 18 to apply CREAM EYE LINER in CAVIAR along the upper lashline. At the outer end of eyes, you want to lift color up and out so that it reaches past the natural shape of the lash. Tip: The key here is to allow the brush to glide. If color skips, you can always add more.

- Now comes the fun part. Using the brush end of one of Lori’s all time favorite tools, the DOUBLE-ENDED SMUDGER BRUSH #20; apply CREAM EYE LINER along the bottom lashline, making sure to smudge along the way. Then, using the same black shadow from TWILIGHT set your liner by applying shadow over the top using the same brush.

- Next, dip DEFINER BRUSH #15 into silver shadow in TWIGHLIGHT and apply a pop of color at the tear wells only. Pump lashes with LAYER LASH PRIMER and finish with a generous coat of FOCAL POINT MASCARA in BLACK.
